Leggings Ad Insults Customers

This ad for plus size leggings seems to be gratuitously insulting its target demographic. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, the hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. https://tytnetwork.com/join/

“We’ve all heard of companies hiring thin models to advertise plus-size clothing but one company took this concept to the next level — and the images have sparked outrage.

Amazon retailer Arrive Guide sells activewear in both straight and plus-sizes. That’s great news for the average woman who wears a size 14/16 — a range the fashion industry deems plus-size — but the model used by the company is not exactly reflective of the plus-sized shopper.

Not only is the model slender, she’s showcasing how large the leggings run by pulling the fabric away from her body in one image and in another, standing with two legs inside one pant leg.

Facebook user Betsy Abel, a woman in Minnesota, recently posted a photo of Arrival Guide’s Yukata Women’s Active Workout Capri Leggings, captioning it, “Here’s one for today’s ‘Are You Freaking Kidding Me’ file. Scrolling through Amazon looking at leggings… Get to the bottom and see this pair of plus size leggings… That’s fine, no shame if you need a larger size. So what the hell are they thinking using a slim model with two legs in one side??? Talk about disrespectful and being in poor taste. Like oh, hey, in case you don’t feel bad about needing a larger pair…let’s make asses of ourselves and show how two trimmer women could fit in these. Un-freaking-real!”

  1. Please, this is some guy selling stolen goods from his basement and had to get his sister to model. Not saying his no making fun of them, but I think thy expect too much of Amazon

  2. If you see someone jogging and looking a bit winded, regardless of their body type it is your duty as a human being to drive slowly along side them and play "eye of the tiger" loudly.

  3. I usually agree with the TYT comments, but this is not the case, I don't understand why they are so triggered about this. I'm myself obese and I didn't get triggered by that, why? Because all I saw was the demonstration of how big the product really is. I don't see the supposed fat shaming in this.

  4. This is no excuse at all, but I find it totally believable that they might have done a photo shoot for all kinds of active wear, and had no model at hand who would fit those leggins, so they figured it would be funny to put a "regular model" into one leg. Again, no excuse, and I doubt my fat ass would even fit those leggins, but the though of using normal people from the street for a fashion shoot is simply inconceivable for folks in the fashion industry. That exactly is the problem with them!

  5. i find it indsty that only over weight woman r cald plus size but men r just cald fat win afertize iwould no im 29 ive been buy big peaple clothes sence 13 at big and tall only can buy

  6. I actually disagree with one thing in this. I can only speak for myself, but becoming disgusted with my body is exactly the reason I got healthy again _" I think that a better point to make is that insulting people makes you a rude asshole and clearly a worse person that the person you're insulting no matter their looks. People bloody well know what they look like, there are these neat things called mirrors and they don't need stupid douchebags reminding them of what they can clearly see in the mirror. I completely disagree with Anna's assessment of motivations, however, as being disgusted with my looks was my biggest motivation.

  7. How do you market to big bodied individual. It's gonna come out offensive no matter what. Realize how I said big bodied because I don't know the right word for it to put my message accross properly because every term you coin will be considered offensive in the next 5 years. It's just not comfortable being told you are fat no matter which language is used, but it has to be said because people like this do exist there will always be clothes and health.

  8. theres people in the comments saying its factual
just because someones fat its factual but it is insulting just because its true doesnt mean it isnt insulting

  9. I dont understand TYT. They talking about how people are so easily triggered like this star of david on the gay flag – the story they covered and now they act like little bitch too :-/

  10. Maybe they just had the one model for all sizes? They don't seem to be a huge company so more likely it's that instead of contempt for the people they are selling too.
